Training and capacity-strengthening

Our training processes and courses focus on topics, methodologies and approaches to facilitate the strengthening of organizations and social movements.

Our goal is for participants –activists and leaders in their own right– to recognize their own potential while strengthening their individual and collective capacities to improve not only the functioning and impact of the groups, organizations and movements in which they participate, but their own lives and surroundings as well. An integral part of these processes is that participants develop their own proposals, plans, and agendas to achieve the changes and goals they have set for themselves and their organizations.

In both the face-to-face and virtual processes, we combine experiential work, with the sharing of research-based knowledge and theory, always promoting dialogue among participants and the exchange of experiences and ideas.

Most of our educational processes include communication for social change components, as well as work focused on building alliances and coordinations.

Situational analysis and other types of inquiry and assessment inform curriculum development, while evaluation processes help us improve our work and impact.

Some of our training and capacity-strengthening programs

Regional training program

Designed for activists and leaders of groups and organizations throughout the Central American region, as well as for migrants and LGBTIQ+ groups.
This program includes courses, workshops and webinars.

Violence prevention in schools

The “My School, a Safe Place” program uses the potential of educational spaces to create safe environments by strengthening the capacities of students, their families, educators and administrative staff. We work in schools in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

We involve children and adolescents in processes of inquiry, reflection and dialogue. We promote and facilitate coordination among different areas of school life to increase their knowledge about the prevention, identification and attention to situations of violence, with a focus on the prevention of sexual violence and suicide. We train students and teachers in the “learning by doing” methodology, collectively creating stories and videos as tools for empowerment.

We address power relations in a holistic manner, promoting an inclusive and safe school culture, training educators in gender-sensitive pedagogy to improve educational practices.

Face-to-face community-level training with leaders and activists

In this line of work, we focus on the reconstruction and strengthening of the social fabric, as part of a Central America-wide strategy for violence and suicide prevention.

Coaching and accompaniment of women leaders in Central America and Mexico

Personalized and group attention to address and overcome difficulties faced by activists and leaders, with a view to improving their own lives, their interpersonal relationships and their leadership.

Training for
migrants

We carry out training activities in Central America for people who have had to migrate for different reasons. Topics include economic empowerment, training on legal frameworks and regulations to facilitate integration in the host countries. We also work on psychological and emotional strategies for coping with being uprooted, and with the grief and other psychosocial issues associated with displacement.
